Whatever happened to being bored in the summer? Once as a child, I told my mother I was bored. She gave me a bucket and a brush and told me to scrub the three flights of backstairs. Funny, I don't remember any other summer when I became bored.
Today, it is camps and trips, baseball, cheerleading, karate etc.etc.etc. My kids got to run through the lawn sprinkler, stay in the driveway until the street lights came on. They also visited free beaches, free parks and free zoos.Everything today seems to have an impressive price tag.
Perhaps we no longer enjoy a free world.Too bad, I think more young people could use fee time to foster their imagination and creativity. Oh, but then Mom and Dad would feel negligent, due to the missing price tag.
Whatever happened to parents enjoying the gift of free time with their children? Where did all our free time disappear to???
It must be today's high temperature that caused me to rave!

The price tag is what happened to the free time -- all the free time is eaten up by working to earn the fees. Free parks and beaches are still available, but there is no status in going if there are no fees.
My favorite toys as a child were dirt and water. My friends and I made mud pies, mud castles, mud sculptures of all kinds ...
The added fortune of playing in the mud is that one was ORDERED to run through the sprinkler several times a day. ("You're not coming im my house looking like that! Go out and wash it off!")
Great post, Pauline!
I just posted a pic for you... There will be more to follow.
