Myriad of emotions unspoken
written upon the faces hidden
beneath appropriate smiles
joy, anticipation, disappointment
what private thoughts are processed
along the corridor and stairs
what impact of the peoples cheers
lay etched upon his heart
as history records this day
no promises are heard
yet the audience holds fast
in waiting for his whispered word
of hope, renewal, some new start
one step forward into the brightness
of our future days.
