Heartbeat of Age

Do not be upset with me
If you percieve me as
Independent
Do not be upset with me
If at this time I do not need
The support of your arm
My dependence is of an
Interior kind
A gentle tone with kindness
An offer to assist
Although refused
The offer is a golden gift
Do not be upset with me
When I struggle to control
Last years given by God
Of health and strength for I
Shall fail as expected yet for
Now I will enjoy this gift of ability,
Embracing each fleeting moment
More passionately.

Losing independance is a bitter thing, yet you have showcased the emotions gently and beautifully. I do love your way with words.

Working with the elderly has given me insight. I love the television ad that says "I'm not old, I have just lived a really long time." Can't tell you what they are selling...but I like the ad!

Age
It only matters if you mind
if you don't mind, it doesn't matter

This was written for a neighbor who has just been installed with a pace-maker.Age is very much a state of mind.I have witnessed frail elders who possess the youghful exuberance in mind and spirit!Look at the studies done on those living into their 100's fascinating. I took a course in gerontology and enjoyed it greatly.
