Just to let you know
time is being taken
not to run away
but to seek visits
time spent with family
and friends
just to let you know
everything is okay

The leading cause of death among fashion models is falling through street grates. Dave Barry quote :)

THE POWER WITHIN YOU II
THE POWER WITHIN YOU
When life hands you lemons make lemonade. That used to be a favorite expression of mine until I drank my fill of lemonade this year. Cancer that’s the word that strikes fear and loathing into each heart. Cancer that’s the word that spills our lemonade over the top and we drowned in the once delicious flavor.
Life’s journey can at times feel like an endless winding road. We grow weary and uncertain of what event lies unseen just beyond that next bend. Our concerns can be magnified by past experiences sadly memories cast shadows onto the gift of today.
We are here to grow in our experiences through a myriad of emotions and circumstances. Who among us has not basked in the joyfulness of life? Who among us has not felt the sting of loss and unexpected pain? We each hold our individual stories our hidden hurts and disappointments within as an unseen shadow land.
My hope is that in reading we will each be willing if only for a moment to examine our shadow land and permit light into this darkness that clouds a new day.
Most often we struggle with forgiveness of some perceived wrong done to us. In my case the sudden illness of my husband and the robbery of our shared life screams for my need to forgive whatever powers of nature, man, god, or beast that has brought this emptiness into my life.
You may have a different image in your personal shadow land that haunts your days robbing you of light and joyfulness. Think about your experience try to forgive and try to let go of your shadows.
Surprisingly we forget the need to forgive ourselves and we hold on to negative energies. The powerful gift of forgiveness delivers a weightlessness of mind, spirit, heart. Forgiveness creates a release of tension and permits us to accept our human imperfection.
Attempt to give yourself and that certain someone you are holding in this cloudy shadow land the gift of forgiveness. Experience the power within you to release the shadows and bring in the sun of warmth and abundant freedom from yesterdays injuries and wounds.
This is no easy task but I am striving to move forward. I believe good things wait for me around that next bend in the road but first I must be open in heart and spirit to receive those hidden gifts. I must release my captive yesterdays and set them free on the wings of forgiveness.
You have an opportunity to forgive and move forward. I say lets give it a try what do we have to lose yesterday is already done.
The power is within you for only you hold that special key to open the door to a happier tomorrow.

gift of sharing
A woman hospitalized steps outside for a breath of fresh air, in doing so; she meets a young woman crying. They begin to share their hospital stories of health and family concerns. The patient listens to the young woman speak of her mother’s illness; the patient offers to buy a cup of coffee from Dunkin Donuts and the gift of sharing begins.
Later in the day the young woman returns to visit this new friend. In the evening as our family fills the corridor with goodbyes, hugs, and tears our youngest grandson is held in his father’s arms when a three year old peeks from the hospital doorway across from my husband’s room. The young mother says “she wants to see the baby.” Instinctively I pick the child up and James and this little girl exchange smiles. She snuggles against me like a Koala bear clinging to a comfortable tree; enjoying her embrace I smile to her mother and thank the little girl for such pure loving. Attempting to place her back upon the floor she clings to me. The young mother asks me if I am a grandmother, laughing I reply yes, does it show?
Early the next morning in the hospital corridor I notice the patient walking, guiding her drip bottle pole as she treads carefully in her exercise mode. We greet each other and I inquire if that was her granddaughter’s hug given to me last evening. It is here that she tells me of a stranger and her child met through mutual sharing of concerns. Her hair has been beautifully braided and she informs me that the young woman that she gave coffee to came to her room and took the time to braid her long hair.
I marvel at this circle of good deeds among strangers. We have shared conversations, hugs, crossed and chosen to ignore our differences. We have been part of acts of charity. We have all been witnesses to the gift of God’s love and comforting touch within a hospital setting that over flows with kindness and compassion. We have each been integral parts in a living Caritas Carney Story.
Despite the illnesses of the characters we have been blessed by demonstrated genuine love.
To each of your staff we send this story and a heartfelt thank you!

37 Seconds
It will take just 37 seconds to read this and change your thinking.
Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room. One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs. His bed was next to the room’s only window. The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. The men talked for hours on end. They spoke of their wives and families, their homes, their jobs, their involvement in the military service, where they had been on vacation.
Every afternoon, when the man in the bed by the window could sit up, he would pass the time by describing to his roommate all the things he could see outside the window. The man in the other bed began to live for those one hour periods where his world would be broadened and enlivened by all the activity and color of the world outside.
The window overlooked a park with a lovely lake. Ducks and swans played on the water while children sailed their model boats. Young lovers walked arm in arm amidst flowers of every color and a fine view of the city skyline could be seen in the distance. As the man by the window described all this in exquisite details, the man on the other side of the room would close his eyes and imagine this picturesque scene.
One warm afternoon, the man by the window described a parade passing by. Although the other man could not hear the band - he could see it in his mind’s eye as the gentleman by the window portrayed it with descriptive words. Days, weeks and months passed.
One morning, the day nurse arrived to bring water for their baths only to find the lifeless body of the man by the window, who had died peacefully in his sleep. She was saddened and called the hospital attendants to take the body away. As soon as it seemed appropriate, the other man asked if he could be moved next to the window. The nurse was happy to make the switch, and after making sure he was comfortable, she left him alone. Slowly, painfully, he propped himself up on one elbow to take his first look at the real world outside. He strained to slowly turn to look out the window besides the bed. It faced a blank wall.
The man asked the nurse what could have compelled his deceased roommate who had described such wonderful things outside this window. The nurse responded that the man was blind and could not even see the wall. She said, "Perhaps he just wanted to encourage you.
"Epilogue:There is tremendous happiness in making others happy, despite our own situations.Shared grief is half the sorrow, but happiness when shared, is doubled. If you want to feel rich, just count all the things you have that money can’t buy."Today is a gift, that is why it is called "The Present ."
The origin of this letter is unknown, but it brings good luck to everyone who passes it on.Do not keep this letter. Just forward it to your friends to whom you wish blessings.

Cold Day's Rant...Go Figure!!!
When teenagers are shooting each other at a school bus stop (Las Vegas) security is tightened. Yet, fools wish to ban spanking a child. Is there not a difference between a spanking and "abuse" of power... Go figure!!!
When young women speak of abortion with less concern than they would display over a dental appointment we should be alarmed. But we will save the whales, the polar bears, the salmon. That makes us feel good about ourselves... Go figure!!!
When we no longer have any concern for our environment that sustains all life. We need to pause a moment and reflect on the simple fact "We cannot live without healthy air!" It is as simple as that. We cannot wait to eventually agree on protecting this life sustaining force. Act now in agreement to prioritize its significance to our health, to our life. Pull off the veil of superiority and recognize as a basic life force we all need the same things... Go figure!!!
Television and the computer have replaced reading the newspaper. Nostalgically I recall the ability to read. We spend more money on transporting students than we do on educating them. It is time for true change. It is time to reap the financial rewards of public education. We should not be using tax payers money to fuel buses that transport our future workers and leaders from one inadequate school to another. Show us the budget for transportation and lets place that total sum into the educational system ...Go figure!!!
Currently we are seeking a new individual to lead this country. Let the people hear your view on the real issues stop hiding behind a curtain of innuendoes. Will Bill be capable of remaining silent in the back room while Hillary runs the country or are we truely re-electing Bill Clinton for another term? Is Senator Obama the answer to the average American concerns or is he a man who knows what we "want " to hear?...Go figure!!!
We now have penalties for smokers they are banned from public buildings but we do not address the problem of drugs within our society. Cruelty, theft, mistrust, corruption. loss of ability, joblessness, families dissolved into confusion. Good job on the cigarettes now lets get to work on the greater problem of illegal drugs that disrupts the quality of life in American society. Stop ignoring the problem and start resolving....Go figure!!!
Sports is entertainment, I understand that. Entertainers receive great monetary returns, I understand that too. Lets support our people in uniform whether it be police, fire, emergency medical staff, etc. They save lives every day for me that represents a major home run or a touch down. Lets support that home run through pay that is comparable to their risk factor and job dedication....Go figure!!!

Dona Nobis Pacem "2007"
A Creed of Mother Theresa
People are often unreasonable,
People are often unreasonable,
illogical and self-centered.
Forgive them anyway.
....
If you are kind, people may accuse
Forgive them anyway.
....
If you are kind, people may accuse
you of selfish, ulterior motives.
Be kind anyway.
....
If you are successful, you will win
Be kind anyway.
....
If you are successful, you will win
some false friends
and some true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
....
If you are honest and frank,
people may cheat you.
Be honest and frank anyway.
....
What you spend years building,
someone could destroy overnight.
Build anyway.
....
If you find serenity and happiness,
they may be jealous.
Be happy anyway.
....
The good you do today,
people will often forget tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
....
Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough.
Give the world the best
Succeed anyway.
....
If you are honest and frank,
people may cheat you.
Be honest and frank anyway.
....
What you spend years building,
someone could destroy overnight.
Build anyway.

Be happy anyway.
....
The good you do today,
people will often forget tomorrow.
Do good anyway.
....
Give the world the best you have,
and it may never be enough.
Give the world the best
you've got anyway.
....
You see in the final analysis,
it is between you and God.
It was never between
you and them anyway.
...
....
You see in the final analysis,
it is between you and God.
It was never between
you and them anyway.

Patchwork Of People

America a land
of immigrants
a land of people

freedom to believe
or not
in all choices

of immigrants
a land where
hearts hold dear

place of origin
enjoying the gift
so great
of freedom
weaved among a
patchwork of people

History of the jack-o-lantern

History of the Jack-O’Lantern
Pumpkin carving is a popular part of modern America’s Halloween celebration. Come October, pumpkins can be found everywhere in the country from doorsteps to dinner tables. Despite the widespread carving that goes on in this country every autumn, few Americans really know why or when the jack o’lantern tradition began. Read on to find out!
People have been making jack o’lanterns at Halloween for centuries. The practice originated from an Irish myth about a man nicknamed “Stingy Jack.” According to the story, Stingy Jack invited the Devil to have a drink with him. True to his name, Stingy Jack did not want to pay for his drink, so he convinced the Devil to turn himself into a coin that Jack could use to buy their drinks. Once the Devil did so, Jack decided to keep the money and put it into his pocket next to a silver cross, which prevented the Devil from changing back into his original form. Jack eventually freed the Devil, under the condition that he would not bother Jack for one year and that, should Jack die, he would not claim his soul. The next year, Jack again tricked the Devil into climbing into a tree to pick a piece of fruit. While he was up in the tree, Jack carved a sign of the cross into the tree’s bark so the Devil could not come down until the Devil promised Jack not to bother him for ten more years.
Soon after, Jack died. As the Irish myth goes, God would not allow such an unsavory figure into heaven. The Devil, upset by the tricks Jack had played on him and keeping his word not to claim his soul, would not allow Jack into hell. The Devil sent Jack off into the dark night with only a burning coal to light his way. Jack put the coal into a carved-out turnip and has been roaming the earth ever since. The Irish began to refer to his ghostly figure as “Jack of the Lantern,” and then simply “Jack O’Lantern”
In Ireland and Scotland, people began to make their own version of Jack’s lanterns by carving scary faces into turnips or potatoes and placing them into windows or near doors to frighten away Stingy Jack and other wandering evil spirits. In England, large beets are used. Immigrants from these countries brought the jack o’lantern tradition with them when they came to the United States. They soon found pumpkins, a fruit native to America, make the perfect jack o’lanterns.
And this is the history of our pumpkins on the steps, our carving of faces upon the pumpkins. I hope you enjoyed this Irish myth
Happy Halloween!!! Love Nana

A Monster On The Loose
There's a monster on the loose
and he has a giant tail that when
it swings from side to side each
life it touches does subside not
quickly not without pain its tail
implants a need sometimes known
as heroine or cocaine
There's a monster on the loose
causing such confusion
we watch horrified as families
friends or neighbors fall prey
beneath its tail
what can we do to unite to fight
this monster that appeared
sweeping dreams with his tail they
fall aside
no footprints left behind
but lakes of tears, broken hopes
dashed relationships, loneliness and fear.

The People Next Door
Salt air vs. Tobacco
We shall not miss the absence
of cheap cigars and cigarettes
We shall not miss the attitude
Of his self imposed importance
Today the air is fresh and begs
us to breath deeply
Salt air vs. Tobacco
We reclaim the salty ocean
breeze with chairs upon the deck
Gone away and sad to say the folks
next door will not be missed
Smiling we proclaim the victory
of salt air over cigars and cigarettes!

Food for Thought
What's on your plate? Jane Goodall's book Harvest for Hope
gives us plenty to process. The writer captures so many
aspects of our dietary intake, it can be a bit overwhelming.
Hang in there and become mindful of what's on your plate An
overdue notice to those of us who shop the grocery isles in
ignorance. Warning this book may be "helpful" to your health.
