September Race

And they're off!
All but jumping from the starting
Gates into the new month of
September race.
New clothes, new books, new job
They race, undaunted by challenges
Unknown at these starting gates which
Lead to new opportunities that will
Stretch the mind and fill the space
With memories of time and place
And they're off!
Galloping, striving, yearning to win
Acceptance, achievement, accomplishments
Keep your eyes steady on the track ahead
Hold your prayers in your heart until the finish
For we can only win this race if we are blessed
By God's pure grace.

Pauline -- this is indeed the way the children leave home this first day of school, but they enter their new classrooms quite differently. They come in stiff, nervous and wide-eyed.

The first day they are almost completely silent, speak only when spoken to and breath as little as possible. The second day they are a little more relaxed. My the end of the first week they have relaxed and are ready to be themselves. It is part of the ritual that I love.

I love it too as I witness the same race in the next generation of scholars.

Pauline..thank you for your visit and your kind words.

I love your poem!! You have captured the spirit of renewal and energy and eagerness that always accompanied the new school year. A sense of possibility, a sense of joy to see friends, a sense of newness and freshness, and even uncertainty as schedules are re-set and new teachers are encountered.....Wonderful. You transported me back to the days.....thank you so much.

blessings and wishes for peace flowing to you...
