Had an interesting time at another's blog as to whether empathy could be taught or was perhaps inborn, although maybe hidden till brought out by growth and experience. I argued that it could not be taught. But you suggest an interesting aspect to the question by introducing animal empathy to the discussion. Hafta think about that awhile.
