Civic Duty

Juror service calls
not without a wince
juror service calls
not without some
quiet meditation
juror service calls
not without hesitation
we listen carefully
weighing our responsibility
to judge the truth
unbiased and earnestly

You know, I have had a valid driver's license since I was 14 years old, yet I have never been called to serve jury duty?

Hope it stays that way for you!!! some people really enjoy the experience others like myself feel burdened by the magnitude of those scales of justice.

Hi katie!!!! Thank you for your civic duty. We had a very good judge this time who explained the process and the significance of our role..almost made me want to participate ;). It turned out we had six cases and they were all settled out of court. That is a Christmas present! My body is adjusting to my eyes thank you for asking. I was told there is no disease present "Amen" history of blindness in the family so I was causing stress for myself through worry, worry, worry. I haven't seen any of those new location pictures yet but your poetry is as lovely as ever!

Hi Pauline. I thought I did leave a comment but...

The verdict rests in the hands of the jurors: doubt I'd enjoy this responsibility though. Glad to hear that those cases settled out of court. Merry Christmas!

oh god...okay sometimes the movies make the duty looks like a dreadful soul snatching experience...but come on...i love being holed up in hotels doing something for the greater good of humanity. :p Nice that you don't have to attend this time...we don't have jury duty here...hope in the future anyway.

Good luck Pauline all the cases were settled out of court. I was called twice, once in 1978 and then again last year. Last year I was able to get out of it by explaining to the court if I was in a long trial I wouldn't be able to work and keep myself and the cats fed with a roof over our heads. It worked.

I am glad you got your song I sent you the other day, is there any other music I have on the blog you'd like?

God Bless

twilite, a heavy responsibility but an amazing process to share the power of the judicial system with the common people. "Merry christmas to you!"

ghost, yes pray that you and your fellow citizens will be able to share in this powerful experience.

bill, it was a gift to all in attendance. We were as children getting out of school early for the day :) Thank you for the music. I can't think of anything at the moment...contradiction time... can you get David Gilmour "Find the cost of freedom" I heard it this past week and was moved. I am not savy on the computer to try and download it myself.I could ask one of the grandchildren lol "Merry Christmas Bill!"

ohh... lol.. the grouse were in my side yard...... :)

The golden morning in my celebrating life with Katie from my porch.....

I'm glad to hear that your eyes are not getting any worse and that there is no disease.

I went for a walk with my 2 bigger dogs this moring. It was clear, warmish. Now it is snowing - already covered the ground by a few inches.

All cases settled out of court? Sounds like a lovely Christmas present to me!

Did you have to amke decisions as to whether the person(s) were guilty or not?

Pauline said...

mystic rose, that is the duty of a juror to listen and to decide if the evidence is sufficient and with out doubt. "NO" we were all dismissed as all cases were settle without a trial. An agreement was reached between the lawyers and the involved parties. I am happy to say we never met.
