A slender man unthreatening in nature
A sheetmetal worker used to working
With his hands
I remember that moment
He stood with the refrigerator door open
His t-shirt reflecting its light
I was thirteen and when he spoke
I retaliated with a flip remark
Pretending to be unshakened
With a gesture so rapid his hand reached forward
Grabbed my shirt front and lifted me off the floor
Suspended in air
We never spoke of that moment
