It is only an eye exam I
Search for a reason to
Feel so anxious eye drops
And fancy equipment
Pleasantries spoken with
Clipped words that lack
Empathy
Through it all I suddenly
Fall backward into my childhood
It is not me sitting in this chair
Faced with all the examining tools
It is my mother and I am waiting
Small and anxious, unseen
Sitting in the darkened room
On an uncomfortable chair
Hidden memories revealed
My anxiousness at this cool
Uncaring hand
I ask him if I should take vocal
Lessons? He replies impatiently
I don't know what you're talking
About!
I mention Andrea Bocelli and with
A force of words that strike he states
You are not going blind
He doesnot convince me nor does he
Calm my fears
I know my mother's story and he is
Ignorant of my fears.

Thankfully it is not universal, but far too many Doctors are brain smart and not people smart. Empathy can be a powerful bit of medicine.
New doctor found. :)
